The Nedbank Cup semi-finals have been confirmed following a draw that took place at Chatsworth Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday evening.
The draw was conducted live on the SuperSport PSL channel immediately after the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match between Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs.
All four semifinalists teams were in one pot, as there was no seeding.
SEMI-FINALISTS
The four clubs that booked their spots in the Nedbank Cup last four were Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch, Sekhukhune United and Chiefs.
ROAD TO THE SEMIFINALS
In the first semifinal of the tournament, Pirates managed to secure a hard-fought victory against the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars. The game took place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Nedbank Cup giant-killers, Dondol, were knocked out of the competition’s quarterfinals following a 5-4 defeat against the Buccaneers on penalties.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time.
Later on in the evening, Stellenbosch FC locked horns with Mamelodi Sundowns at Athlone Stadium in the second semifinal.
Stellies ended Sundowns’ 26-game unbeaten run, as they salvaged a 2-1 win over the defending champions.
On Sunday, Babina Noko knocked out struggling Chippa United in the third semifinal of the competition. The game ended with 2-1 in favour of Sekhukhune at Nelson Mandela Bay.
The final semifinal clash of the Nedbank Cup saw Chiefs defeat Thwihli Thwahla on theiri own turf after 120 tiresome minutes.
The showpiece ended with a 2-1 scoreline after extra time.
Amakhosi came into this match gunning for their 10th Nedbank Cup semifinal appearance. Since the formation of the PSL in 1996/97, and its first since 2019.
The Soweto giants are the first winners of this tournament in 1971.
