Chiefs coach Zwane reacts to Nedbank Cup draw against Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has voiced out his feelings after his side was pitted against its Soweto arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Amakhosi defeated Royal AM 2-1 in extra-time on Sunday evening at the Chatsworth Stadium to grab the last spot in the last four.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers overcame Dondol Stars in the penalty shootout after they had played a 1-1 draw in the 120 minutes on Saturday.

The semi-finals draw took place just after the match between Amakhosi and Thwihli Thwahla in Durban. Chiefs will square off with Pirates for the third time this season.

The two sides have already faced off twice in the league this season and the Glamour Boys won both matches.

When they learnt their next opponents in the competition, Amakhosi fans at the stadium and some club officials couldn’t hide their joy.

However, Zwane insisted though that this time around it wasn’t going to be easy to get the better of Jose Riveiro’s men.

ZWANE REACTS TO BEING DRAWN AGAINST PIRATES IN NEDBANK CUP

“It’s not gonna be an easier one as everyone thinks because cup games are totally different to league games,” Zwane said.

“But as I said we treat every game with respect. And unfortunately, this one is not like any other game, there’s a lot at stake. Once you meet Pirates, you’re expected to be on top of them and make sure that you win the game.

“I think the excitement comes from knowing that we’re playing Pirates that are also doing well. That will be good for South African football as well, not only for Chiefs but for South African football.

“Pirates are well doing. We’re also finding our way up and yeah it’s gonna be one game that will be good to watch.”

In the other semi-final, Sekhukhune United will tackle Stellenbosch FC.

Stellies dumped holders Mamelodi Sundowns out of the tournament in what was a shock result of the weekend. Meanwhile, Babina Noko knocked out Chippa United who’re also struggling in the league.

PSL is yet to confirm the dates and the venues for the Nedbank Cup semi-final fixtures.
