JDR Stars beef up squad with two players

Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR Stars have beefed up their squad with two new players as they prepare for the 2023/24 campaign.

JDR Stars have been let down by inconsistency in the National First Division as they push for promotion to the DStv Premiership.

The Nditsheni Nemasisi-owned club still has a slight mathematical chance of gaining promotion to the Premiership. However, teams above them in the league must lose all their remaining four matches, while they win theirs.

JDR Stars is currently sitting in fifth position on the Championship table with 40 points, and they are 10 points away from the top three clubs, who all are on 50 points.

The Gauteng-based side has won 11 games and drawn seven while losing on seven occasions after 26 games played.

JDR STARS WELCOME NEW FACES

This publication has gathered that JDR Stars have completed the signing of Nkosinathi Ononogbu and Kgotso Mahloane.

Ononogbu was signed on a free transfer after he was axed by Baroka in December 2022 for allegedly participating in a ‘Kasi football tournament’ in Tembisa.

The 25-year old attacker was found guilty by Bakgakga for taking part in footballing activities without the club’s permission.

Meanwhile, Mahloane gained prominence in township tournaments, and this will be his first professional contract with JDR Stars.

Furthermore, the race in the second-tier league for automatic promotion to the PSL is heating up, with Polokwane City, Cape Town Spurs and Casric Stars gunning for promotion.

MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE RACE GOING DOWN TO THE WIRE

The title race was blown wide open last weekend when Cape Town Spurs beat Casric Stars, who had opened a three-point lead at the top, while Polokwane City won their game against La Masia to leave all three clubs level on 50 points.

The next round of Motsepe Foundation Championship games will be on the 21st of April 2023.
