Super League: Sundowns Ladies return to winning ways
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies returned to winning ways this past weekend, as UWC Ladies dropped points against TS Galaxy Queens in match-day nine of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The overall number of goals scored in all eight games this weekend were 23.
SUNDOWNS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies got their campaign back on track on Saturday, 15 April, after beating struggling City Lads 3-1 away from home.
Coming into this game, Sundowns we’re looking to bounce back from their defeat against Royal AM. After the loss, the reigning Super League Champions slipped to second place just behind UWC.
However, Banyana Ba Style sealed a victory against City Lads, claiming all three points. Banyana Banyana international Lelona Daweti scored the opening goal in the 21st minute.
Daweti’s goal was followed by an equaliser in the second half [55th-minute] by City Lads. But a couple of minutes later, the in-form Boitumelo Rabale came off the bench to score a brace for the Brazilians.
Rabale scored her first goal in the 59th minute and completed her brace in the 87th minute.
City Lads remain 13th on the log standings with five points, while Sundowns move to the summit after UWC dropped points.
THE REST OF THE SUPER LEAGUE RESULTS
UWC dropped points for the first time this season against TS Galaxy. The Cape side lost 2-0 at home. As a result of Sundowns winning against City Lads, UWC drops to second place on the table. They are on 21 points with a game in hand.
UJ Ladies also lost their home game, 4-2, against Copperbelt Ladies. However, UJ remains third with 18 points.
In the bottom-of-the-log clash, Thunderbirds Ladies got their first win against First Touch, beating them 1-0. The three points put Thunderbirds and First Touch level on points with five points each.
Royal AM failed to collect three points at home against JVW Girls after their big win against Sundowns just before the FIFA break. The KZN side suffered a 1-0 defeat.
Richmond United beat relegation-threatened Ma-indies Ladies 2-0. And TUT Ladies’ struggles to replicate their form from the previous season continued as they lost 2-1 to Durban Ladies at home.
Lastly, AmaTuks Ladies won 2-1 against struggling Coal City Wizards.
