Nyiko Mobbie addresses uncertain Mamelodi Sundowns future

Bafana Bafana first choice right back Nyiko Mobbie has addressed his uncertain Mamelodi Sundowns’ future.

Mobbie is making no predictions over his Mamelodi Sundowns’ future after another season away on loan.

Sundowns signed the national team fullback from Free State Stars after Ea Lla Koto was relegated in the 2018/19 season.

Four seasons later, Mobbie has only featured in one competitive match for the Tshwane giants. He has had loan spells at Stellenbosch, Chippa United and Sekhukhune United.

He has since opened up on his future with the DStv Premiership champions Sundowns.

NYIKO MOBBIE ON HIS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FUTURE

“It’s not all about Sundowns, it’s all about me as a player, I have a chance here at Sekhukhune,” Mobbie told journalists at Sekhukhune’s media open day.

“I have a chance to play at Sekhukhune, I’m only thinking about where I am now and nothing else for now.”

At Sundowns, Mobbie would have to contend for a place against his two national teammates.

Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has Thapelo Morena and Khuliso Mudau at his disposal for the same position.

Siyanda Msani and Nicholus Lukhubeni are also on loan at Richards Bay and Swallows this season.

The Limpopo-born Mobbie said while there was an existing contract with Sundowns, he was a happy man at Babina Noko.

“I think because I still have a contract with Sundowns, but to be honest, I’m happy here,” Mobbie added.

“It’s not even about me playing, it’s the way the team plays. But I can’t say I’ll be here [long term]. I don’t know because I am still here, and I have a contract with Sundowns.”

An aggressive, attacking defender, the Limpopo-born broke into Free State Stars’ first-team in the 2017/18 season under the Belgian mentor Luc Eymael where they enjoyed success, winning the Nedbank Cup.

He has established himself as Bafana’s first choice right back since Hugo Broos took over in May 2021.
