Hunt on why SuperSport are PSL’s second-best team after Sundowns

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has insinuated that Matsatsantsa are the second-best DStv Premiership side after Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hunt stated that his men deserve to finish in the CAF Champions League spot; second position on the log standings at the end of the season.

This is despite SuperSport dropping crucial points during their DStv Premiership match against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday. The game ended in a 0-0 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It was SuperSport’s eighth draw of the season. They are now on 44 points, one above third-placed Orlando Pirates, who have played a game less.

The Tshwane side has only won once in their last four Premiership matches, a concern for Hunt.

On Tuesday night against Gallants, Hunt’s troops were their own enemies, missing clear-cut chances and also failing to convert a penalty in the dying minutes of the match.

SUPERSPORT UNITED DESERVE TO FINISH SECOND

But despite the setback, Hunt maintains that the only club that deserves to finish behind Sundowns is SuperSport.

The club alongside, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are in contention for the CAF Champions League spot with Cape Town City also still mathematically in the race.

“We are not worried about that, we deserve it because we are the best behind Sundowns,” said Hunt.

“So we should be miles ahead, we were six or seven points clear at one stage, and we just have not been taking our chances in the last four games, so it is what it is.

“We were well ahead three games ago, but we have also made it hard for ourselves. The game against Chippa [United] was the same thing, we should have won four or five nil, but we drew 1-1. So yeah, it is what it is,” he said.

“Look, it happens. I don’t expect that but it’s one of those things you know.”

SuperSport United’s last four matches of the season will be against AmaZulu, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch [all at home]. They will wrap up the season with an away at Sekhukhune United.
