Brandon Truter happy to have goalkeeper selection headache

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has a selection dilemma on his hands in the goalkeeping department.

The former AmaZulu mentor has a selection headache between the posts, with international goalkeepers Badra Ali Sangare and Toaster Nsabata fighting for the number one jersey.

Truter has entrusted Ivorian Sangare with the starting berth since arriving at the club, but Zambian Nsabata hasn’t made that an easy decision to make.

BRANDON TRUTER’S SELECTION HEADACHE

Sangare and Nsabata are both international quality keepers who are currently are the number one goalies for their respective countries.

Sangare, though, has played more minutes than Nsabata for Babina Noko this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions and keeping nine clean sheets.

Nsabata, on the other hand, has enjoyed less game time but has been snapping on Sangare’s heels, playing ten matches in all competitions and keeping three clean sheets.

Truter’s has admitted that it hasn’t been easy picking the keeper to go with, adding that it will be even more difficult as the season draws closer to its conclusion.

However, it’s a selection headache the former Richards Bay coach is more than happy to have as it means he has two quality keepers to pick from.

“The two goalkeepers, Toaster and Badra, are both number ones for their respective countries,” said Truter.

“At this moment, Badra has the number one jersey. He’s kept a few clean sheets in a row and for that his place in the starting team is warranted.

TOUGH DECISION TO MAKE

“Toaster at this moment, it’s a bit difficult. The AFCON is coming and we had a meeting about his situation at the club.

“But it’s for me to manage, to try and keep them both happy. It’s not easy because we are in the business end of the season. And I think we want to take minimal risk. Continuity and consistency at this stage of the season is key.”

Sangare is expected to keep his place in the team for Babina Noko’s next assignment.

They face Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
