Former coach reveals Teenage Hadebe’s biggest motivation

Teenage Hadebe’s former coach Dumaza Dube has revealed the reason why the ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender had a meteoric rise since his days in Zimbabwe’s PSL.

The 27-year-old joined Kaizer Chiefs from Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side, Chicken Inn in 2017.

Teenage Hadebe is one of the few Zimbabweans that excelled at Kaizer Chiefs before making a big leap to Turkey.

In Turkey he spent two years before swapping to the Major League Soccer where he now turns out for Houston Dynamo.

The Zimbabwe international established himself as the club’s mainstay in the team’s defense.

Teenage Hadebe is one of the three former DStv Premiership players in the United States of America’s Major League Soccer.

And his former coach Dumaza Dube has revealed where he draws inspiration.

“He vowed to be different. Teenage [Hadebe] wanted to do many things for his mother, sadly she passed on when he was on the rise in 2017,” Dumaza Dube told FARPost.

“That has been the main driving force in his life because he wants to change everything in honor of his late mother.

“I realised that is his secret and source of strength. Its the fuel that drives his dedication and  passion to be different. He is the one on top among the boys he played with during the junior days.”

Hadebe has also been credited for helping Knox Mutizwa develop into one of the best Zimbabwean strikers in the PSL.

“Knox [Mutizwa] belonged to a team that had very talented players. He played in the Highlanders juniors with Teenage Hadebe and Lawrence Mhlanga. I was part of the technical team.

“Hadebe [Teenage] was an imposing figure. The player is tall. He had effective attributes of a defender.

“To Knox he was a pillar of strength and energy despite the fact that he is two years younger.

“They pushed each other hard in training, off the field of play and I’m not surprised that they both rose to be the stars they are today,” Dube said.
