Sekhukhune midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo makes fitness admission

Sekhukhune United midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo has made an admission on his fitness.

Mokotjo recently returned to the DStv Premiership in January during the transfer window after spells overseas.

He played for Twente FC in the Netherlands, English side Brentford and MLS outfit FC Cincinati.

Prior to returning to South Africa, Mokotjo was heavily linked to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. However, the move fell through and Sekhukhune secured his services.

The 32-year-old’s career has been disturbed by injury setbacks. His recent injury saw him stay on the sidelines for almost a year. The last time he had a team was back in November 2021.

So for in Babina Noko’s colours, Mokotjo has made eight appearances in all competitions.

Kamohelo Mokotjo’S admission

According to Mokotjo he is not yet 100 per cent fit.

“I’m not 100 per cent yet; the coach [Brandon Truter] knows that; I said it to him. I’m maybe on 80, 85 per cent,” said Mokotjo.

“There is still a lot more room to grow fitness wise, knowing myself I’m never satiesfied. I also feel like I haven’t peaked yet. I’m a 32-year-old in a body of a 28-year-old, I feel like there is a lot more to come.

“What I’m doing right now is working hard to stay fit, to stay healthy and to keep progressing, to level up, to stay as professional as I can.”

MOKOTJO ON RETURNING TO THE NATIONAL TEAM

Mokotjo further stated that he’s keen and open to returning to the national team if coach Hugo Broos decides to give him an opportunity.

The last time he represented Bafana Bafana it was back in 2020 against Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

“For me, I don’t close any doors, it’s important to keep an open mind to stick to what I know,” he added.

Mokotjo is in line to feature for Sekhukhune when they host Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Sunday 23 April.

Kickoff at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is at 3pm.
