Fadlu Davids outlines Maritzburg’s target in next two games

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids has revealed what his side is aiming for in the next two games against Swallows and Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership.

The Team of Choice scored a late equaliser against Richards Bay FC on Friday night to salvage a point at the Harry Gwala Stadium. The match ended 1-1.

However, that outcome didn’t make any significant difference as the Pietermaritzburg-based side still remained rooted at the foot of the DStv Premiership table. Meanwhile, for Natal Rich Boyz, a draw ended their eight-game losing streak.

Davids’ troops are still going to encounter Swallows, Marumo Gallants, Stellenbosch and Mamelodi Sundowns before the season ends.

However, Davids is confident that they will come out with six points in their next two matches against the Dube Birds and Bahlabana Ba Ntwa.

“We’ll play Swallows and Marumo, it’s direct opponents and it’s still in our hands,” he said.

“It’s clear [that we have to get six points in the next two games]. But let us focus on the first one.

“The next one we will tackle and analyse and go through it. Now at the moment, our focus is on Swallows and getting that three points is so vital.”

The former Orlando Pirates coach believes the return of Ali Meza in the next match will be a major boost for his side offensively.

“Meza comes back [for Swallows game], Cross is not yet back still has one game but he [Meza] will definitely give us a boost going to this Swallows game,” he added.

“We need players that can be clinical in front of goal and give us that extra push. But of course, the guys who played tonight did well, they did everything right but put the ball at the back of the net more often.”

Maritzburg who have collected 25 points in 26 games are one point behind the 15th-placed Chippa United and three behind Swallows.
