Bafana star Foster claims league winners’ medal in England

Bafana Bafana star Lyle Foster has claimed the league winners’ medal after Burnley FC were crowned champions of the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday evening.

Foster’s side, Burnley, clinched the English Championship league title with two games to go against Blackburn Rovers.

The 22-year-old striker was an unused substitute, as his side won 1-0 against Lancashire rival, Blackburn at Ewood Park.

BURNLEY’S JOURNEY TO WINNING THE LEAGUE TITLE

Burnley earned promotion back to the Premier League on the 7th of April after spending just a season in the Championship.

Since then, Burnley’s next mission was to wrap-up the league early with just five games to go.

And all they had to do was win their next two games, in order to be crowned the Champions of England’s second-division.

However, they took their foot off the pedal with their form dropping after clinching promotion to England’s topflight with a victory against Middlesbrough.

After sealing their place in the Premier League, the Clarets only won once, drew two times in a row, and lost their last game this past weekend against QPR. Foster started three of the four games.

After they lost to QPR, Foster’s manager, Vincent Kompany advised his troops to not play the occasion but to rather play the game.

And that’s exactly what Foster and his teammates did in the East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers.

Foster started the game on the bench, following his absence from the match-day squad on Saturday against QPR.

WHAT WINNING THE LEAGUE MEAN FOR BAFANA STAR FOSTER

The English Championship league title is Foster’s second trophy abroad since he started his European career in 2019 after parting ways with Orlando Pirates.

His first title was with his previous side, KVC Westerlo, where he helped the Belgian side gain promotion to Belgium’s top tier.

Since he arrived at Burnley in January, Foster has featured in 10 games in the league for the club and has managed to score one goal.

After winning the league with Burnley, Foster will look to win more trophies in Europe, and make a name for himself.

Burnley will play their last two games of the season against Bristol City and Cardiff City.
