Gavin Hunt on why Sundowns will continue dominating the PSL
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has outlined why he believes Mamelodi Sundowns will continue to dominate the PSL for many years to come.
Sundowns showed their class once again this season winning their sixth consecutive DStv Premiership title.
What was different this time around was the points gap which was 19 points between Sundowns second placed SuperSport and the number of matches it took Masandawana to clinch the league.
SUNDOWNS HAS BEEN CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
Sundowns has been on their best the entire season, something other teams can’t replicate. They have gone 17 matches without a defeat in the league after registering 12 victories and five stalemates.
“The secret is not when you play Sundowns, the secret is when you play teams down bottom. That’s where teams like us get it wrong,” said Hunt on MSW.
“You got to be more consistent and you got to win those games when you play bottom half of the league teams.
“Sundowns does well in that area. Those clubs are sort of beating us that’s where the difference and where points come in. This year we haven’t done great in that situation [for example], we haven’t beaten Swallows this season.
“When you play Sundowns and these types of games it’s an even game. We won this season [against Sundowns], we beat them, they beat us but you can’t judge your season on that.”
EYES ON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
SuperSport United are pushing for a spot in the CAF Champions League next season with Orlando Pirates breathing down their neck.
The duo are separated by a point sitting on 47 and 46 points respectively. Pirates has got one game in hand with three matches left to finish the campaign.
“I want to be in that space [champions league], I got to the semi-finals [with Kaizer Chiefs]. We went through those qualifying stages, went through group stages and I was so close,” Hunt added.
