Chiefs star plotting sensational reunion with former club

A sidelined Kaizer Chiefs star is plotting a sensational reunion with his former club.

With the transfer window approaching, Amakhosi look likely to have a lot of player movements.

At the end of last season, Chiefs parted ways with several players who were not part of the coach’s plans.

The DStv Premiership side looks set to sever ties with several players again as they continue their rebuilding exercise.

Eric Mathoho, Phathutshedzo Nange and Alexander Cole are some players on their way out of the club.

Their contracts come to an end in June, and indications are that the club will not renew their contracts.

While Njabulo Ngcobo still has a running contract, he has endured a frustrating campaign under Arthur Zwane.

Ngcobo joined Chiefs from Swallows in July 2021 after being crowned Defender of the Season for 2020/21.

However, he has fallen down the pecking order at Naturena. Zwane has preferred the likes of Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika and Siyabonga Ngezana in central defence.

As a result, Ngcobo has only made five starts in the entire season. The other seven appearances were off the bench.

With two defenders already signed for next season, the 28-year-old is aware his chances of playing may be slimmer.

SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe signed a pre-contract in January and will join them at the end of the season.

Given Msimango has also signed from TS Galaxy, although the club is yet to announce the deal.

NGCOBO TO RETURN AMAZULU?

According to a source close to Ngcobo, the ball-playing defender is now plotting a sensational reunion with Usuthu.

“He has made it clear to his representatives that he wants to go where he will get game time. He wants to play football,” the source explained.

“At some point, he was in the national team and feels if he was playing consistently, he would have a chance of playing for Bafana Bafana.

“He is keen on AmaZulu, but he will be open to any other club that will give him a fair chance to play football,” the source added.

At the end of the season, Ngcobo will have a year left on his contract. He penned a three-year deal in July 2021 and has spent two seasons so far.

His move depends entirely on Chiefs, as he still has a running contract with them. On Thursday, Ngcobo was given his first league start since September 2022.

He put up an impressive performance as Chiefs won 1-0 against Chippa United in Gqeberha. Ngcobo kept the dangerous Godspower Ighodaro under lock and key.
