Arthur Zwane makes honest admission on Chiefs’ season
Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has made an honest admission on the season that the club is having in his maiden campaign at the helm.
Amakhosi are in a rebuilding phase under the guidance of Zwane as they let go of a bunch of players at the start of the season and signed new ones.
The Soweto giants had aimed for the CAF Champions League spot but are now out of contention following a 2-1 loss to Swallows in Polokwane on Monday.
Although mathematically it is still possible to finish second, they will now have to hope both Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United drop points.
Amakhosi still have the Nedbank Cup to fight for as they face rivals Pirates in the semi-finals at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
When giving his assessment on how his rebuilding phase has gone so far, Zwane admitted that this is a season to forget for the club.
ARTHUR ZWANE’S HONEST ADMISSION
“This is one season that obviously we would want to forget but we still have a lot to play for,” he said.
“There is a lot of improvement in the squad. More especially playing with young players and players that are new also in the setup.
“It was always going to be a bit of a challenge to strike a balance, but I think these players did fairly well. They gave their best all the time. Yes, some of the games we thought we deserved to win, but we didn’t win them, and we learn from them.”
“We have to move, You never know what is going to happen but that’s football. It’s a game of numbers and it’s unpredictable as well.”
With two games remaining in the DStv Premiership, Chiefs are fourth on the log standings with 44 points. They have managed to win 13 games, draw five and lost 10 times.
Zwane explained how his men will approach the remaining matches in the 2022/23 season.
“All the games are important for us. We don’t choose games, and I have always been saying this. We wanted to win this one; we wanted to win the previous games,” declared Zwane.
“Even in the next match we will go further and make sure that we go all the way to the final and there will be two more games to play before the final so there is a lot at stake.”
