Relegated Black Leopards makes decision on Owen Da Gama

Relegated Black Leopards have made a decision on the future of coach Owen Da Gama with two games left in the Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Leopards, along with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM], failed to avoid the axe as they got relegated to SAFA ABC Motsepe League.

This is unless something drastic happens, as it is usually the norm in the National First Division at the end of each season.

PSL COACH DISMISSED

News reaching FARPost is that Leopards has dismissed head coach Owen Da Gama. Da Gama took over from Zimbabwean mentor Rodwell Dhlakama in February this year.

He was in charge of 11 matches, winning two, drawing three and losing six. His arrival was a bit too little too late for the Lidoda Duvha side which has spent 25 years participating in the PSL.

This publication has gathered that long-serving technical team member Morgan Shivambu is tasked with taking over for the remaining two matches.

FARPost also reached out to Da Gama who confirmed his departure but declined to comment further.

“I don’t have any comments at this stage. I think the owner knows where he went wrong and where he went right,” he said.

DISJOINTED BLACK LEOPARDS SIDE

Owen Da Gama added: “But I really found a disjointed team when I went there. I found an unbalanced team and some players don’t even deserve to be in the

“NFD. But you can’t blame the owner for that because it was all put up by the previous coaches. Which makes it very difficult.”

Da Gama is not the only technical team member to leave Leopards in recent times. Zambian goalkeeper coach Samuel Banda also left towards the end of April after spending over five years with the Limpopo side. Victor Tshabalala, who came in alongside Da Gama, has also been shown the door.

Leopards’ last two matches are at Thohoyandou Stadium against All Stars and Venda Football Academy.
