SAFA admit to have received Tebogo Motlanthe’s resignation letter 

SAFA has issued a full statement on the news of Tebogo Motlanthe’s resignation letter as the Association’s CEO. 

Yesterday, news broke out that Motlanthe has tendered his resignation as SAFA CEO with immediate effect. 

The South African football governing body has since come forward to admit to having received Motlanthe’s resignation letter. 

The Association has convened an emergency meeting set to take on Sunday, 7 May 2023 and will be led by SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan.

SAFA noted that a further statement will be issued after the meeting concerning the matter and “other developments at the Association.”

SAFA’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT 

“SAFA remains focused on South Africa’s Bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. And will also finalise discussions around all of the regulatory requirements needed to pursue the global event,” read the statement. 

“Banyana Banyana’s road to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in July will also be discussed. As well as the appointment of an Acting SAFA CEO.

“The relationship between SAFA and Advocate Motlanthe remains cordial and there is no animosity between the two parties.”

SAFA PRESIDENT TO MEET TEBOGO MOTLANTHE

Meanwhile, SAFA president Dr Jordaan is expected to meet with Advocate Motlanthe on Saturday, 6 May 2023 in the evening. 

Jordaan is set to discuss the matter further with advocate Motlanthe before an official statement is issued about his resignation. 

“Details of their conversation will be communicated in a press release to be issued after the Emergency Meeting to be held on Sunday 7 May 2023,” added SAFA.

Motlanthe was appointed as SAFA CEO on a five-year contract in January 2021. He took over the position after he came highly recommended by the interviewing panel and the SAFA NEC endorsed his candidature unanimously back then.

Unpon his appointment, SAFA president, Jordaan, described Advocate Motlanthe as an outstanding football administrator through and through.
