Arthur Zwane makes telling comparison between Chiefs and Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has made a telling comparison between Amakhosi and the club’s arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates.

Zwane and his charges were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup semi-finals by Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 6th of May.

The elimination in the Nedbank Cup meant that the Chiefs’ trophy drought continue since they last won a silverware in 2015.

On the other hand, Pirates have already won a trophy in the 2022/23 campaign as they clinched the MTN8 title late last year after beating AmaZulu in the final.

And with that said, the Soweto giants are in a position to win their second trophy in Jose Riveiro’s first season.

Pirates booked a spot in the Nedbank Cup final, where they will face Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 27th of May.

The Spaniard took over the coaching reigns at Pirates at the start of the season.

Despite Riveiro being in his maiden season in the DStv Premiership, Zwane has argued that Pirates had a core compared to Chiefs.

“If you look at Pirates and the signings they made, they already had a core,” Zwane told the media.

“When you look at us [Chiefs], we had to start afresh. And when you look at players that were part and parcel of the team this season, some of them didn’t play.

“Also, taking into consideration that most of our key players that could have played the game [against Pirates] and many other games that we ended up losing, they were injured,” Zwane added.

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ dreams of finishing second on the league table to qualify for the CAF Champions League next season hang in the balance.

The Naturena-based side stumbled in the chase to finish as runners-up in league. They lost two of their last games in the league against Sekhukhune United and Swallows FC.

Chiefs will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face SuperSport United at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday 13th of May. Kickoff is at 15:00.
