Bafana Bafana midfielder makes welcome return from injury
A Bafana Bafana midfielder, who has struggled with injuries since moving to the MLS, is back fit and ready to kick on.
It’s not been an ideal start to life in the MLS for Njabulo Blom. The former Kaizer Chiefs midfield workhorse is battling illness and injuries.
The 23-year-old has only made five appearances in all competitions for his new side St Louis City. This is due to different issues.
NJABULO BLOM’S INJURY NIGHTMARE
Blom, who joined the MLS expansion team in December last year, initially had work permit issues which kept him out of action at the beginning of the season.
And when that was finally sorted, the Chiefs academy graduate suffered another setback. He was forced to miss more games due to illness in March.
Blom was forced to pull out of Hugo Bross’ Bafana squad that played Liberia and sealed qualification for Africa Cup on Nations [AFCON] set to take place in the Ivory Coast next year.
His torrid start to life in the MLS continued. He picked up a groin injury in a match against Seattle Saunders on April 8.
The initial diagnosis was that Blom would be out for five to six weeks. But the South African made it back in four, eager to get his season back on track.
NJABULO BLOM MAKES QUICK RECOVERY
Bradley Carnell included the former Chiefs man in his match squad against FC Dallas on Sunday. However, Blom couldn’t make it off the substitutes bench as bad weather halted the match.
Lightning storms in Texas meant the match could not be completed after it was halted in the 50th minute with the score tied 0-0, and will be finished a later date.
Carnell will be delighted to have the services of Blom again, although City only lost one match while their new midfield grafter was sidelined through injury.
