Lyle Foster’s Burnley FC blast their way into history books

Lyle Foster’s side, Burnley FC, have added their name to the EFL Championship history books following their impressive 3-0 victory over Cardiff City in their last game of the season.

After spending six seasons the Premier League, Burnley FC got relegated to the Championship last campaign.

However, their trajectory took a different turn with the appointment of the former Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany.

Kompany brought a few changes to the club. The standout changes being, the recruitment of younger players and changing the style of play.

Bafana Bafana striker, Foster, was one of the young recruitments Kompany made since his arrival.

Since then, Burnley gained promotion back to the Premier League with several games to spare. In the process, they made history by becoming the sixth side to win the Championship with more than 100 points.

The last team to achieve this was Leicester City in the 2013/14 season. The other teams who have reached the 100-mark milestone are Newcastle United, Fulham, Sunderland, and Reading.

“I don’t know if I need to debrief this game too much, but job done and a great moment with our fans, a really great moment,” said Kompany.

“Records are for the fans, but when it’s done you do remember them. We’ve achieved it. For us to do 100 points you have to take into account the start we had, the turnaround of the team.

“Having to build cohesion, and I said at the beginning that we could get stronger towards the end of the season.

“We got to 101 points but it was a team that still had plenty left in the tank. We were just getting there and it’s a nice thing to finish strong,” concluded Kompany.
