PSL announce dates for Promotion Play-Offs

The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has announced the dates for the end-of-the-season PSL Promotion Play-Offs.

The competition consists of a team that ended the DStv Premiership season in 15th place and the number two and three from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

PSL has confirmed that the competition will play between 28 May and 14 June. Meanwhile, the draw will take place at the PSL headquarters on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 at 3 pm.

The teams that will participate are yet to be confirmed.

TWO SECOND TIER TEAMS TO TAKE PART IN PSL PROMOTION PLAY-OFFS

The two teams from the second-tier will be confirmed on the 14th of May, the last day of the season.

At the moment, it is in Cape Town Spurs’ hands to secure an automatic promotion by winning their last match of the season. They’re currently at the summit of the table with one point ahead of the second-placed Casric Stars and two ahead of the third-placed Polokwane City.

In their final match, Spurs will square off with the University of Pretoria who took part in the Play-Offs last season.

Meanwhile, Casric Stars will travel to the fourth-placed All-Stars in what will be a tough fixture for the Mpumalanga outfit.

Polokwane City will be aiming for maximum points when they welcome Pretoria Callies while hoping that Spurs don’t seize three points on the day.

However, as it stands, Casric Stars and Polokwane City will be among Play-Offs participants.

ONE PARTICIPANT FROM THE TOP-FLIGHT

With two games to go, the battle for survival still looks tense as eight teams can still find themselves ending the season in a relegation Play-Offs spot.

As things stand, Maritzburg will suffer relegation while Chippa United will take part in the Play-Offs. However, things might change especially for the Chilli Boys who have one game in hand and are level on points with Gallants who have played one more game.

If Chippa win their next game against TS Galaxy on Saturday,13th of May, they will leapfrog Bahlabani ba Ntwa who lost their last game to the champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
