Chippa’s Etiosa Ighodaro not interested in winning Golden Boot

Chippa United FC striker Etiosa Ighodaro says that he is not interested in winning the DStv Premiership Golden Boot with two league games left to play.

So far, Ighodaro has netted 10 league goals in 23 appearances for the Chilli Boys and weighed in with one assist in the process.

The 21-year-old forward has equalled the now Orlando Pirates man Eva Nga for most league goals by a Chippa player in a single top-flight season. Eva Nga scored 10 DStv Premiership goals for the Gqeberha-based outfit last campaign.

Ighodaro was speaking ahead of their league clash with TS Galaxy on Saturday, 13 May 2023.

The game will take place at Mbombela Stadium, with the kick-off set for 15:00.

As things stand, Ighodaro is just two goals behind Mamelodi Sundowns goal poacher Peter Shalulile, who is leading the race for the Golden Boot with 12 goals.

ETIOSA IGHODARO:’MY JOB IS SCORING GOALS FOR MY TEAM’

But according to the Nigerian-born goalscorer, his major objective is to score goals for Lehlohonolo Seema’s side to survive the chop rather than focusing on the Golden Boot race.

“For me, my job is scoring goals for my team,” Ighodaro told Chippa’s media department.

“I’m not looking forward to drag the Golden Boot with anybody. My goal is to score goals for the team and make us save. And by doing so, if I can contest in the Golden Boot then it’s okay.”

WHAT COACH SEEMA HAS BEEN INSTALLING IN HIS PLAYERS

The Chippa star player went on reveal what coach Seema has been instilling in them as the DStv Premiership reaches its fever pitch.

“So, the coach has been encouraging us. Telling us that it’s in our hands to be save for the next two games that are coming,” divulged Ighodaro.

“We know that Galaxy is not a small team to deal with but we have our save to walk on. We don’t want to lose the game.

“It’s either we get out there to get maximum points or a draw because we don’t want to lose any points there.”

Currently, Chippa are placed 15th on the log standings with 29 points, equal in points with the  14th-placed Marumo Gallants. Interestingly, the Chilli Boys have a game in hand.
