SuperSport United captain Onismor Bhasera has expressed his frustration at the situation in his home country Zimbabwe.
The Warriors defender has lashed out at Zimbabwe’s football authorities, labelling them as ‘selfish’. Zimbabwe has been under a FIFA ban for over a year now on charges of third-party interference.
FIFA cracked the whip on Zimbabwe after the Sports and Recreation Commission[SRC], a government arm, removed the Zimbabwe Football Association [ZIFA] executive committee led by Felton Kamambo.
And the world football authority has been clear that reinstating the Felton Kamambo-led board is the only way out.
Sadly, the SRC has defied all the recommendations from FIFA, saying they are cleansing the local game.
And with Zimbabwe missing the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, SuperSport United captain Onismor Bhasera is frustrated.
ONISMOR BHASERA EXPLAINS HIS FRUSTRATION
He is concerned about how the country’s football posterity is being disadvantaged by what he termed selfish ‘leadership’.
“It’s frustrating for all of us because there are kids who are missing their chances of participating in international games.
“This is because of the selfishness of other people. People who don’t think of other people. There are people making decisions in their offices.
“They don’t know what it means to be a footballer in the streets. A lot of youngsters have missed their chance of showcasing their talents at the international level.
“It’s frustrating. Imagine we have so much talent, but it’s slowly going down the drain,” Onismor Bhasera said.
What further frustrates the SuperSport United captain is that the FIFA ban has also seen a few Zimbabwean players joining regional clubs.
LOBBIED ZIMBABWEAN AUTHORITIES
Previously, the DStv Premiership used to be a comfortable home for exceptional players from Zimbabwe
However, doors into the lucrative league appear to have closed, with only nine players remaining afloat.
At the moment, most players are joining the Botswana Premier League to try their luck.
The SuperSport United captain follows several players that have lobbied Zimbabwean authorities.
These include Marshal Munetsi and Khama Billiat, but their efforts have yielded nothing up to now.
