Four takeaways from Pirates’ training session at Rand Stadium

Jose Riveiro took his Orlando Pirates charges through their paces on Thursday morning, and there were two notable absentees at Rand Stadium.

Orlando Pirates are set to host Sekhukhune United in the penultimate round of the DStv Premiership.

The game is set to be staged at Orlando Stadium on Saturday 13th of May.

The Soweto giants head into the game on a high after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-final last Saturday.

They will face Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday 27th of May looking to clinch their second trophy of the season after winning the MTN8 title.

In addition, Pirates are unbeaten in their last seven DStv Premiership games. In the current campaign, Bucs have won 25 games, drawn five and lost eight times in 28 games.

With Pirates preparing to take on Babina Noko, FARPost spotted five things at their training grounds in Rand Stadium.

1. OLISA NDAH CARRYING A MOONBOOT

Ndah has been out of the Pirates matchday squad for a while. He last featured in the club’s 2-1 loss against Chiefs in the back in February.

The Nigerian international is likely going to finish the season on the sidelines with the league concluding in the next few weeks.

2. THEMBINKOSI LORCH NOTABLE ABSENTEE AT TRAINING

Lorch has missed the last three matches for Pirates due to an injury. The skillful attacker missed the better part of the 2022/23 campaign, nursing an injury. It remains to be seen if he will recover on time for the Nedbank Cup final.

3. BANDILE SHANDU BACK WITH THE REST OF PIRATES SQUAD

Shandu was stretched off and looked to have sustained a severe injury against Chiefs over the weekend. However, the wing-back has rejoined the rest of the squad. He is in contention to start against Sekhukhune on Saturday.

4.CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH IN THE GOALKEEEPING DEPARTMENT

The Ghosts have a clean bill of health in the goalkeeping department with all their goal-minders in full training competing for the starting XI.

Pirates were without the services of Richard Ofori. The goalie had sustained an injury that kept him out of 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup squad for Ghana.
