Jose Riveiro’s message to fanatical supporters of Pirates
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has opted to share a message with the fanatical supporters of the club following the Soweto giants’ last home game of the 2022/23 season.
Riveiro’s troops played out to a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon in what was their final game this season at Orlando Stadium.
The result saw Pirates drop crucial points in the race to finish second in the DStv Premiership. However, Riveiro was satisfied.
He was pleased with the turnout at the venue, known as ‘Esigodini sika Maminzela’. He thanked the Bucs faithful for their support throughout the season.
Jose Riveiro’s KIND WORDS TO ORLANDO PIRATES SUPPORTERS
“For the ones who came to the stadium, I say thank you for the support. It has been such an experience for me to be part of the games here, a historic place like Orlando Stadium,” said Riveiro.
“It is a privilege for me and the players to have the opportunity to work for the club, knowing the number of people who are behind us. And it is very special.
“And when we play at Orlando, the regular fans that attend every game, we appreciate their support. And sometimes, they are critical, and we have to accept it because they want to see good football and results.
“What I would also love to see is the stadium packed [to full capacity] when we play important games as a club. Our fans understand that we need them, and it was very nice the way they helped us during the season.
Jose Riveiro RECALLS HIS FIRST PIRATES GAME AND THE SUPPORTERS IMPACT
“I started my first game here at Orlando against Swallows, a 1-0 victory. The fans helped us a lot in that game,” recalls Riveiro. “From all of us at Pirates, the players and coaches, we are thankful for the support.”
With the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League spot still up for grabs, Riveiro urged Pirates supporters to come out in large numbers as they play a vital role of the 12th man.
The Soweto giants will take on Sekhukhune in the Nedbank final on Saturday, 27 May 2023 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
In addition, Pirates hold the second spot on a mere two-goal advantage. They are tied on 51 points with third-placed SuperSport United heading into the DStv Premiership finale.
The Buccaneers will have to beat AmaZulu on the last day of the league to aid their chances of sealing the Champions League spot.
