TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH – SUNDOWNS vs UWC

The top of the table clash did not disappoint at all. UWC Ladies came into the game as log leaders. While Sundowns Ladies was second, with just two points separating them and UWC Ladies.

For the first 20 minutes of the game, UWC Ladies neutrilised the Sundowns midfield.

While they looked organised in every department, and looked to catch Sundowns on the counter whenever they won the ball in midfield.

However, that did not last long. In the 23rd minute, Chuene Morifi scored the opening goal of the game, which put Sundowns ahead.

From there on, the mood of the game changed slightly, allowing Sundowns to get into their groove and dominate the rest of the half.

In the second half, however, UWC started the half on a high tempo, with the intention to equalise. But, Sundowns had other plans, with Andisiwe Mcgoyi scoring the second goal for Sundowns.

UWC head coach, Thinasonke Mbuli, was not happy with her team’s performance but still remained hopeful about their season.

UWC HEAD COACH ON HER TEAM’S PERFORMANCE

“I don’t think after losing this game, we are a bad side all of a sudden. We had moments where we could have scored a goal,” she said.

“But our decision [making] was very bad, but it is still early, we can’t write ourselves off. Because they [Sundowns] can’t say they have already won the league.

“But we have to go back, and try to fix the mistakes we did today. It was bad,” concluded Mbuli.

Sundowns will move back to the summit on 34 points, just one point behind UWC, who are on 33 points.
