Marumo Gallants players refuse to train ahead of Yanga clash

The Marumo Gallants players have refused to train ahead of the important CAF Confederation Cup semifinal against Yanga SC on Wednesday.

FARPost has been reliably informed that the issue of bonuses is the main contributor to the latest developments.

WHY MARUMO GALLANTS PLAYERS REFUSED TO TRAIN

The club was scheduled to have a training session at 13:00 at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

But this publication has gathered that the players refused to get into the Bus until the club commits to their demands. They are currently at the hotel in Rustenburg where they camped.

This publication reported last month that there is an outstanding issue of bonuses for their CAF Confederation Cup achievements.

For reaching the semifinal, Gallants are already guaranteed R 8.25 million. They could pocket a total of R 11.5 million if they progress to the final and R 23 million for winning the Cup. 10 per cent of the prize money will go to the SAFA.

The issue of the bonuses is not new to the club. FARPost reported in April that the players were threatening to boycott their quarterfinal match against Egyptian side Pyramids. But after some talks, the players honoured the fixture.

Amongst other things the players want the club to commit in writing the issue of the bonuses before they can train. Efforts to reach the club were fruitless.

HISTORICAL MOMENT FOR YANGA SC AND BAHLABANI BA NTWA

Marumo are in the semifinal of the competition for the first time in their three years of existence. They will take on a Yanga side that is also seeking their first-ever Confederation Cup final. Yanga comes into the match with a 2-0 lead following the clash at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam last Wednesday.

They arrived in South Africa on Sunday afternoon ahead of the match that kicks off at 18:00 SA time.
