Chiefs’ Dillan Solomons: ‘We are building something special’
“But we’re building, and we're creating something special."
After years of underachievement in SA’s topflight, Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons is of the opinion that Amakhosi are building something special.
Despite Amakhosi’s failure to find the right ingredients in order to break their trophy drought this season, Solomons says the club is cooking ‘something remarkable’.
It has been eight years since Chiefs won a trophy, and Solomons says they were determined to end the drought this campaign, but that did not happen.
The last time the Soweto giants tasted glory was in 2015 when they were crowned DStv Premiership champions under Stuart Baxter.
Since then, it has been nothing but agony for Chiefs as their trophy cabinet continued to collect dust instead of trophies.
In the 2022/23 season, under the guidance of Arthur Zwane, Chiefs missed out on all the trophies on offer. They also didn’t make the cut for CAF inter-club competition.
However, Solomons is under the impression that the club is within reach of finding the right formula.
DILLAN SOLOMONS SAYS KAIZER CHIEFS IS CREATING SOMETHING SPECIAL
And contrary to popular belief by Chiefs fans, Solomons is seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
“I mean, playing for Chiefs is a big achievement for me,” said Solomons. “But being able to be part of this team has been a great experience even though it was a very inconsistent season.
“But we’re building, and we’re creating something special. So hopefully, next season, we can win some silverware.
“It was really heartbreaking not to win any silverware playing for Chiefs, but you know these things happen in football. Hopefully, next season, we can get some silverware.
In addition, the Chiefs defender went on to rate his first season with the club, insisting that it was a ‘good one’.
The 24-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Soweto side at the start of the campaign from Swallows. He featured in 25 matches in all competitions for Chiefs, with a goal and two assists to his name.
“I feel it was good but inconsistent, and injuries didn’t help me,” he declared. “In my first season at the club, I tried to adapt to the environment.
“I think I did pretty well with that. And hopefully, next season, we can give the fans something to smile about.”
