Mosimane’s Al-Ahli edge closer to Saudi First Division title

With just two more matches remaining, Pitso Mosimane’s Al-Ahli are looking increasingly likely to clinch the Saudi First Division Championship title.

They are back at the summit of the log standings. Mosimane’s men managed to bag a 1-0 win over  Al-Shoulla at the Al-Shoalah Club Stadium on Tuesday.

One of Mosimane’s trusted soldiers this season, Algerian attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz, was once again the match winner for Ahli.

Boudebouz, who has popped up with some crucial goals for Ahli this season, dispatched another penalty. The goal handed The Royals maximum points.

The win saw Mosimane’s side regain top spot from rivals Al-Akhdoud. This is after they had gone top on the back of their 3-1 triumph over Al-Qaisumah on Tuesday.

Ahli remain favourites to clinch the title with two matches remaining. They have amassed 68 points from their 32 matches so far in the league.

They are three points ahead of second-placed Akhdoud with both sides expected to go all out in their bid to be crowned champions.

Mosimane’s Ahli have a tricky clash against third-placed Al-Hazem on the final day, a match that could decide the title.

However, before that, Ahli face Al-Qadisyah in their penultimate match which is another must-win-match for the Jeddah giants.

Mosimane, who is reported to be on his way out of the Saudi club at the end of the season, will be determined to finish strong.

PROMOTION TO SAUDI PRO LEAGUE SECURED

The South Africa has already accomplished his mission and fulfilled his mandate of promoting Ahli to the lucrative Saudi Pro League.

But it’s not job done for the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor. He looks to add the Saudi title to his impressive list of achievements.
