Yanga coach reveals PSL target Fiston Mayele’s contract status
Young Africans [Yanga] coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed red-hot striker Fiston Mayele’s contract status at the club.
Mayele has been in fine form in the CAF Confederation Cup, scoring six goals thus far. He is the tournament’s joint top scorer with Ranga Chivaviro of Marumo Gallants.
The Congolese ace was on target at the stroke of halftime before turning provider to Musonda for the second.
Mayele ran down the left flank after a swift counter-attack. His initial strike was parried away by the keeper, but he made no mistake from the rebound, tapping home from close range.
His goal and assist saw Yanga win 2-1 [4-1 on aggregate] to progress to the final.
In the modern era of CAF interclub competitions, the Jangwani giants are the first-ever Tanzanian team to make a final. Their arch-rivals, Simba, qualified for the final of the CAF Cup in 1993.
On the other hand, Chivaviro scored the only goal for Marumo as they crashed out of the competition at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Thanks to his form, Mayele has caught the interest of teams in Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Egypt.
TWO PSL TEAMS EAGER TO SIGN MAYELE
At some point, Kaizer Chiefs were linked to the former Vita forward, although they never officially expressed interest.
FARPost has it on good authority that two other PSL teams are eager to snap him up.
Now, Nabi has revealed that he is not sure whether they will keep their top striker.
In his two seasons at Yanga, Mayele has scored 52 goals in all competitions.
“Yes, I’m so excited about him because I’m the one who discovered him from AS Vita and brought him to the team.
“There’s one year left on his contract. We’re not sure if he will stay because there’s interest from all over the world.
“We don’t know what we’ll do without him, but it is what it is.”
Mayele is currently the top goal scorer in the Tanzania Premier League with 16 goals.
In his maiden season, he scored 16 goals, missing out on the top goal scorer award by just a goal.
Geita Gold’s George Mpole won the award after scoring 17 goals before switching to FC Lupopo at the start of the season.
