Arthur Zwane’s final matchday demand from Chiefs players
Embattled Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed what he expects from his troops in their last game of the 2022/23 season this afternoon.
In a battle for fourth place, Chiefs will take on Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium with kick-off set for 15:00.
This season has been a difficult for Zwane and his troops, whose trophy drought has now gone for an effective eight years.
With the club failing to win a trophy and securing a spot in CAF’s interclub competitions, fans recently expressed their dissatisfaction in a violent manner.
Zwane and Chiefs’ players were pelted with an assortment of missiles as they approached the tunnel after the defeat to SuperSport United in Rustenburg last weekend.
The Soweto giants issued a statement earlier this week, pleading for patience with Zwane stating that the players need to rise to the occasion.
Arthur Zwane’s final day demand
“We are playing at home, and we have to win the game,” said Zwane. “Coming from three games and not winning. Obviously, it’s going to be a tough one.
“Mentally, it’s a case of expecting players to rise to the occasion and expecting them to win this game playing at home since it’s the last game of the season.
“We need to finish the season with a win and start building for next season. We will have to find a way and make sure we grind a result.”
In addition, Zwane gave a brief injury update, confirming that he has only 19 players available for the CT City game.
“We’ve done our final preparations at FNB Stadium with those who are ready and fit to play,” he said.
“We lost three players to injury and sickness. It’s been part of our lives and the story of our season, but we can’t complain. We have about 19 players available for selection – not even 20 – but it’s okay.”
