Brandon Truter on Sekhukhune top 8 qualification

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has reflected on their achievements this season which include a top 8 finish.

Babina Noko secured a spot in the MTN 8 for the next season after finishing seventh in the DStv Premiership.

They beat SuperSport United 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday through an Edwin Gyimah goal.

Not only have they also reached the Nedbank Cup final but the Limpopo club will also compete in the CAF Confederation Cup, by virtue of being in the Nedbank Cup Final.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED SECURES TOP 8 FINISH

Truter admits, finishing in the Top 8 it’s something that he imagined from the beginning. He took over from Kaitano Tembo when the team was languishing in 15th spot.

“Look, I pray a lot, and I actually thought about it [finishing in the top eight],” he said.

“From where I was, I got fired from my previous club while I was in fifth position and in a Cup. I begged to stay there, but God on his own has his own understanding, and that’s his word. I questioned it [the decision] at that moment, why God? Why this moment, and look where he has taken out? Myself and my goalkeeper coach spoke about it this morning. We said it this morning. We questioned so many things. What happened in the past and look where we are now, that’s why we give God all the grace.

“It’s not about imagining. It’s the faith and belief that we have that we will not get relegated. I have not finished outside the top eight for as long as I was coaching, so yes, it was expected, but Confederation Cup and the Cup final was always my personal ambition.

BRANDON TRUTER EAGER FOR CAF INTER-CLUB JOURNEY

“It’s a lot [that we have achieved] in such a short space of time. For us, when I walked in, they were in 15th position. Now we have qualified for the top 8. We are playing in Africa next season and next week a Cup final. I think with what we have achieved. It’s all down to hard work and players.”

The Nedbank Cup final will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 27 May, at 18:00. Sekhukhune will take on Orlando Pirates.
