Pitso Mosimane wins Saudi First Division title with Al-Ahli
Celebrated South African coach Pitso Mosimane has won yet another trophy, adding to his ever-burgeoning collection.
The serial winner has clinched the Saudi First Division League title in the Middle East with Jeddah giants Al-Ahli Saudi.
Mosimane’s Ahli were crowned champions of the Saudi second tier after a crucial 1-0 win over Al Qadisiya on Tuesday night.
PITSO MOSIMANE WINS SAUDI TITLE
Ahli have amassed 71 points from their 33 matches so far. They can no longer be caught by their closest rivals Al-Hazem and Al-Akhdoud.
Akhdoud’s 3-2 defeat against second-from-bottom Al-Sahel gave Mosimane’s side a clear pathway to the title, and they made no mistake.
Akhdoud and Hazem have given Mosimane’s Ahli a run for their money this season, but their efforts were not enough in the end.
Mosimane, who joined Ahli in September last year, has managed to awaken a sleeping giant. He has brought the Jeddah side back to the top flight.
He sealed Ahli’s promotion back to the lucrative Saudi Pro League a few weeks ago amid speculation regarding his future.
And now, the former Bafana Bafana mentor has added the cherry on top of the cake by winning the First Division League title.
Mosimane has worked his magic on Ahli this season. He took them from being a mid-table team to champions of the second tier with a game to spare.
He won 19, drew six and only lost three of the 28 matches he has been in charge of. Mosimane continues his impressive record of having won a trophy at every club he has coached. That record goes back to his days at SuperSport United.
PITSO MOSIMANE AWAKENS SLEEPING GIANT
Since then, Mosimane has won a ton of trophies with Mamelodi Sundowns, Egyptian giants Al Ahly and now in the Middle East with Ahli.
Despite winning the title with Ahli, Mosimane’s future continues to be a subject of much speculation as he is linked with the likes of Zamalek and Esperance.
Mosimane will likely take charge of his last Ahli match when they face Al-Hazem in their final match of the season on Monday.
