Yanga boss explains interest in PSL striker
Yanga [Young Africans] boss Engineer Hersi Ally Said has explained his club’s interest in a PSL striker ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Yanga were in the country last week to play Marumo Gallants in the CAF Confederation Cup. The Tanzania giants have cast their eye on a South African forward, and Said has explained their interest.
“The main target is the football part. We need a player who can give us results on the pitch,” Said told FARPost. Secondly, it’s also fan engagement – to create good PR for the club abroad.
YANGA BOSS ON INTEREST IN A PSL STRIKER
“I’ve got players from different countries, Congo, and if I go to Congo now when Yanga is playing, it’s like Yanga is at home because I’ve got players from there.
“The Congolese support the team. The same applies to Burundi. The same applies to Uganda. I’ve got a player for Uganda, Khalid Aucho, and the support from Uganda is massive for Yanga.
“We’ve also got a Burkinabe – Stephane Aziz Ki; I have a player from Ghana, Mali Diarra. These players have massive support from their countries.
“We went to play Real Bamako in Mali, and the number of supporters that came to support Young Africans were the same as the home fans. It’s because Diarra is from Stade Malien and we were playing Real Bamako. So the supporters of Stade Malien were converted to Young Africans supporters.
“The same applies if we sign a South African footballer. We will definitely have a number of supporters from South Africa to support one of their own.
LINKED TO RANGA CHIVAVIRO
“So, yes, number one is football reasons, and number two is fan engagement and creating a relationship between the club and supporters outside the country.”
Yanga are one of the clubs linked with Marumo Gallants striker Ranga Chivaviro. Asked whether he was the target, Said said: “No comment”.
The Jangwani giants have said they are open to letting talisman Fiston Mayele leave if the right offer comes. Should the Congolese marksman leave, they will need to replace the 28-year-old.
