The big investment that gave Given Msimango the Chiefs move

In-coming Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has commented on the investment he made in himself at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Msimango has been one of the outstanding performers in the league and and was recently named in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana preliminary squad.

The towering defender formed part of the TS Galaxy defence that finished the league with the third best defensive record.

Galaxy conceded 22 goals in 30 games behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who conceded 13 and 21, respectively.

Msimango broke into the scene in the Premier Soccer League during the 2018/19 campaign with Highlands Park.

In the just-ended season, the 26-year old centre-back made 30 appearances in the league for Galaxy and managed to score three goals.

With Msimango dishing out good performances week in week out, he caught the eyes of Chiefs’ technical team.

The Brakpan-born defender has now opened up about the biggest investment that helped him remain injury free.

GIVEN MSIMANGO OPENS UP ABOUT PERSONAL INVESTMENT THAT EARNED HIM A MOVE TO KAIZER CHIEFS

“I’m very honoured to be nominated for the Defender of the Season award,” Msimango told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.

“So I invested a lot personally by having my own conditioning coach. It paid off because I was injury free and played every game of the season.

“I didn’t realise that I would play every game until we faced Orlando Pirates, I then kept pushing to try and play all matches.

“Also I managed to score three goals which was important because Gavin Hunt once said defenders need to score. I always remember those words.

“I’m prepared for the challenge that lies ahead[joining Kaizer Chiefs]. We play for such moments, these major moves.

“The chairman[Tim Sukazi] gave me his blessings and everyone is happy. I will always have fond memories of my time at TS Galaxy,” he added.
