Cardoso explains what it would take for Sekhukhune to beat Pirates
Veteran defender Daniel Cardoso has explained what it would take for Sekhukhune United to beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final on the weekend.
Babina Noko will take on the Buccaneers at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday, 27 May 2023.
The kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
This is Sekhukhune’s first final in the DStv Premiership since securing their promotion in the 2020/21 season.
WHAT IT WOULD TAKE FOR SEKHUKHUNE TO DEFEAT ORLANDO PIRATES
The 34-year-old centre-back reckons that going into the much-awaited final clash with the right attitude and showing much hunger will help them come out victorious against all odds.
“Look, I think showing that extra commitment. It will also depend on whether you are hungry [how much you want to win it] or not,” Cardoso told journalists.
“I think going in the final with a positive attitude, mindset, and energy that will help us to come out victorious.”
Cardoso have have been instrumental in the Limpopo side’s upturn this season, having played every minute of the DStv Premiership games for Sekhukhune in the just-ended 2022/23 campaign.
And being in the final of the Nedbank Cup means that Sekhukhune have qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup next season, as Pirates finished second in the South African football top-flight log standings.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED SEEN AS THE UNDERDOGS
The ex-Kaizer Chiefs man went on to state that they are going into this game with less pressure because they are seen as the underdogs.
“I think being underdog you go into the game with no pressure. There are going to be so many fans for Orlando Pirates. So we are going there with no pressure,” he added.
“It’s some of the boys’ first final. The nerves will be there but nerves are good because they always give a little bit of a tingle to give it that extra. I think it is a good thing going there as underdogs.”
Cardoso will be hoping to win his first PSL title since making his debut in the top flight in Free State Stars colours back in 2012.
