Why Brandon Truter believes Pirates are favourites to win Nedbank Cup

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter has revealed why he believes Orlando Pirates are favourites to win the Nedbank Cup final.

Truter guided Sekhukhune to their first-ever Cup final since their promotion to the DStv Premiership two seasons ago.

Having joined Babina Noko in November 2022, Truter has seemingly turned the club into a competitive side.

The former Swallows FC coach took charge of Sekhukhune, with the club languishing at the 15th position in the league. He has managed to help the team finish in the top eight.

In the just-ended season, Sekhukhune won 10 games and drew 10 while losing on 10 occasions after 30 games. The Limpopo-based side accumulated 40 points.

Meanwhile, Pirates have been labelled as favourites to lift the Nedbank Cup trophy after finishing the season on a high.

The Buccaneers beat AmaZulu FC 4-0 in their last game in the league last Saturday to qualify for CAF Champions League.

Truter has agreed that Pirates are favourites to land the trophy and revealed the game plan that will be put out for the final.

“It’s not secret that Orlando Pirates are favourites to win the Cup looking at their form,” Truter said at the Nedbank Cup conference.

“Also, Pirates have already won the MTN8 this season, and you saw their performance against AmaZulu last weekend. I mean, they beat AmaZulu 4-0.

“So from our side, we just going to soak up the pressure and hope to catch Pirates on the counter-attack.

“We know that they go all out in attack because that has been working for them in recent games, and we just gonna have our players behind the ball,” Truter added.

The highly-anticipated final between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday 27th of May. Kickoff is at 18:00.
