Mokoena wins big as Sundowns dominate PSL awards

The PSL announced the 2022/23 award winners on Sunday, 28 May 2023, with Teboho Mokoena winning big as he walked away with a top award of the night. 

Mamelodi Sundowns were well represented, as they dominated the award ceremony. This comes after Bafana Ba Style won their sixth consecutive Premiership title. 

Teboho Mokoena won two awards on the night, having being named the Midfielder of The Season of and the Footballer of the Season. 

His teammate Cassius Mailula was another winner as he scooped the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season. 

The DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award also went to Masandawana coach Rulani Mokwena.

To add to that, another Sundowns player Khuliso Mudau walked away with the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season award. At the same time, Ronwen Williams of the Brazilians won the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season.

The DStv Premiership Top Goal Scorer of the Season was given to Peter Shalulile and Khanyisa Mayo of Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City respectively. The duo finished the season on 12 goals.

MONNAPULE SALENG WINS TWO AWARDS

Monnapule Saleng is one player who also had a better night at the award ceremony having won two awards. The Orlando Pirates star won the MTN8 Last Man Standing and the DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the season.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart won the DStv Premiership Goal of the Season after scoring a stunner against Orlando Pirates in a Soweto derby. 

The Motsepe Foundation Championship Top Goal Scorer was presented to Ashley Cupido of Cape Town Spurs. 

Stellenbosch’s Olwethu Makhanya took home the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament award. Another Stellenbosch player, Iqraam Rayners, was awarded the Nedbank Player of the Tournament. 

Cape Town City youngster, Luphumlo Sifumba, won the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season, whereas the DStv Diski Challenge Top Goal Scorer award went to Mervin Boji of Stellenbosch.

Assistant Referee of the Season went to Kamohelo Ramutsindela, while the Referee of the Season was won by Masixole Bambiso.
