One area Neo Maema needs to improve on
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema has revealed one area he needs to work on and improve to get a Bafana Bafana call-up in future.
Maema was crucial and a star player for Sundowns in the just-ended campaign in the PSL and CAF Champions League.
He helped the team to clinch the DStv Premiership title for the sixth time in a row. To add, Maema played a massive role in the Champions League as the Tshwane giants reached the semi-finals.
The 27-year-old played 39 matches in all competitions. He was directly involved in 12 goals, finding the back of the net seven times and providing five assists.
Despite his excellent performances at club level, Maema was overlooked by coach Hugo Broos for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers against Morocco in June.
The Belgian tactician feels like Maema hasn’t shown him enough. Broos opted to bring Miguel Timm, Sphelele Mkhulise, Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena, Luke le Roux, Thapelo Maseko, Grant Margeman, Bathusi Aubaas and Njabulo Blom in midfield.
WHAT NEO MAEMA NEEDS TO IMPROVE
The midfield maestro believes he needs to be more consistent in all matches for his club, Sundowns.
“I did an introspection on how I play for starters. It’s more of keeping my sheet down,” said Maema.
“I need to be more consistent in my own performances for the club Mamelodi Sundowns.
“As much as I work hard I should remain consistent in all the games and try to keep the standard up.
“I’m actually trying to be better than yesterday. To be honest, I don’t feel like the coach did something wrong in leaving me out.”
With the season over, Maema will be focusing on staying fit and improving where he’s lacking.
