Sundowns’ Bambanani Mbane cries foul
Bambanani Mbane was left to reflect on a number of displeasing issues as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Thunderbirds Ladies.
Amongst a host of elements that Mbane felt gave Thunderbirds Ladies the edge was the performance of the referee over the weekend.
The Banyana Banyana star, Mbane, expressed how she felt the match official could have handled some situations on the pitch better.
Mbane also questioned whether the goal scored by the home side, Thunderbirds, to cancel Melinda Kgadiete’s opener was legitimate.
“We noticed from the very beginning that some of the decisions appeared to be partial, which stirred exasperation within the team,” said Mbane.

“Moreover, the goal they [Thunderbirds] scored was seemingly offside, adding to our affliction. It was undeniably a complex and disappointing game for us. While we may have contested some calls, we understand that mistakes can happen in the heat of the game.
“It is essential for us to channel our affliction into productive efforts to improve our performance in the upcoming games,” she added.
The stalemate at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium saw the defending champions, Sundowns Ladies, drop down to second spot. They are a point behind UWC Ladies, who are at the summit of the Hollywoodbets Super League with 39 points after 15 matches.
Furthermore, Banyana Ba Style Regina Mogolola defender lamented the team’s missed chances. She said Sundowns’ inability to finish off games is becoming a worrying factor.
“Despite having our moments, we struggled to find the back of the net,” she said. “We need to work on improving our finishing skills.
“We will take this as a valuable lesson and use it to enhance our performance in our next game. With renewed determination and focus, we are confident that we can overcome these obstacles. And also achieve better results in the upcoming games.”
