How Thabiso Monyane earned Jose Riveiro’s trust
Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Monyane has opened up on how he defied all odds and earned coach Jose Riveiro’s trust in the first eleven.
Monyane has been consistent in his performances each time he’s given an opportunity to play for the Soweto giants.
The academy graduate was key as the Sea Robbers defeated Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final.
In the just-ended season, the 23-year-old played 24 matches in all competitions. He scored two goals and provided one assist.
THABISO MONYANE SAYS HE HAS NEVER DIE ATTITUDE
According to Monyane, he’s a hard worker and doesn’t give up easily. “[It was] my never die attitude, I told myself I’m going to work hard. It won’t be a given thing to me because easy come, easy go,” Monyane told MSW.
“I needed to man up and be mature. I told myself I’m going to run as hard as I can so I show the coach I’m ready and willing to play.
“He’s given me the opportunity, and he’s seen what I’m capable of. I just showed them that whenever I’m ready to play, my hand is up.”
HOW JOSE RIVEIRO CHANGED ORLANDO PIRATES DRESSING ROOM
Monyane went on to reveal how Riveiro has lit up the dressing room since he joined the Bucs ahead of the 2022/23 PSL season.
“The coach is a very good human being. He wants to get to know you before football. That has helped us a lot because he knows how to handle certain situations in a certain manner.
“He’s a hard-working coach. Everyone is willing to die for him. Him knowing us on a personal level has helped us as a team,” he added.
