Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli finish season with draw

In what could well be his final match at the club, Pitso Mosimane’s Al-Ahli were held to a goalless draw by Al-Hazem in the Saudi First Division.

Mosimane’s side had already completed the job heading into the encounter, winning the title in their previous match against Al Qadisiya.

As a result, their clash against Hazem was essentially a dead rubber as they had already sealed promotion to the Saudi Pro League for next season.

It was most likely Mosimane’s final match in charge of the Royal, as Ahli are known, as he is primarily expected to move on next season.

Despite his brilliance this season, Ahli will not extend the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach’s stay and will be looking for a new mentor to lead them in the top-flight next season.

Mosimane has also hinted that he will seek a different challenge next season after meeting his objectives with Ahli.

The serial winner bagged his 19th career trophy and first outside the African continent by winning the Saudi First Division title.

And there will be no shortage of suitors for the decorated Kagiso-born tactician as he looks to write a new chapter in his career.

“Delivered on our mandate of promoting the team to Premier League, and now of winning the Championship,” Mosimane said after winning the league.

“In any league or competition, country or continent, we catch big fish. Nile River before and now in the Red Sea. Waiting for the next project.”

MOSIMANE’S IMPACT ON AHLI

Mosimane transformed Ahli when he took over in September last year. He took them from mid-table to the summit in no time.

He achieved his initial mandate of guiding them to the Saudi Pro League with six matches to spare. Thereafter, he turning his attention to the title.

Last week, Mosimane put the cherry on top of the cake when he delivered the title to Jeddah.
