Rulani hints at what to expect for Sundowns in next transfer window

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has dropped a hint of what to expect for his side in the next PSL transfer window.

In the recently-ended season, the Tshwane giants won the DStv Premiership but failed to defend MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

Reflecting on the campaign, Mokwena feels winning the league title only “wasn’t enough”. He stated they were looking to have a “better” squad next season than now.

However, he insisted it wouldn’t be a window for blockbuster transfers for his side.

RULANI MOKWENA ON WHAT TO EXPECT FOR SUNDOWNS IN THE JUNE TRANSFER WINDOW

“It’s gonna be an important window for us,” said Mokwena. “It’s not gonna be a big window; I don’t think you should be expecting a lot of big movements.

“For sure, we want to improve the squad. The way to improve the squad is to improve the players.

“And the way to improve the players is to work a lot harder to put it in a little bit more. We are happy, of course, about what we did and what we did got us to winning a league title by a huge margin and reaching 70 points out of 90.

“Winning the number of games we won, scoring the number of goals we scored, but that wasn’t enough because apart from the league, we won only the Carling [Black Label Cup].

“And we got to the semifinals of other two competitions, and then the semifinal of the CAF Champions League is one that still shows that even though we are unbeaten, even though we’ve had incredible results that 0-0 draw to Wydad in Casablanca under the circumstances that it was achieved under, the performance against Al Ahly, against Belouizdad.

“And to be out of the competition where we didn’t lose even a single game is still a little bit painful, but I think the only way to get over the pain would be to be on the pitch and try to win more.”

‘GOOD HUMAN BEING’

Asked what it would take for one to become part of the Brazilians, Mokwena repeated the words he had been preaching for a long time. One should be a “good human being”.

“You have to be a good human being to be with us, it’s very important,” he added. “One of those things is we are looking for better than what we have. And that is not easy.”
