Banyana star extends contract with Spanish side

Banyana Banyana star Noko Matlou has seen her contract at the Spanish women’s football team SD Eibar extended by another season. Eibar recently gained promotion to the Primera Division on the last day of the 2022/23 season.

The 2008 CAF Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year was a key figure in her side, missing only two of the 30 matches through an injury. The club had now rewarded the 37-year-old defender with a new season-long contract along with three other players.

NEW CONTRACT FOR NOKO MATLOU

“Eibar have renewed the contracts of women’s team players Noelia Garcia, Jujaba Cardozo, Noko Matiou and Kenni Thompson to keep them in place until June 2024,” said the club.

“The four players, who were part of the effort to secure promotion to the Primera Division, were set to run out of contract on June 30 of this year. But they have now extended their deals for another year.

“Goalkeeper Noelia, defenders Noko and Jujuba and midfielder Kenni have been important parts of Yerai Martín’s team,” concluded a statement from the side.

She took to social media on Tuesday evening to express her delight in the love shown by the Spanish side.

“To see Eibar players and managers so excited after extending my contract just melted my heart. I don’t know what to say, but I’m looking forward to the 2023/2024 season,” said Matlou.

She will play in her second World Cup if She gets the nod in the final squad to play in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
