DStv Premiership’s top 10 most valuable players

Kaizer Chiefs have one player in the top 10 most valuable DStv Premiership players, a list dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to an updated list by Transfermakt, recently crowned PSL champions Sundowns have seven players.

To complete the list are two stars from DStv Premiership runners-up Orlando Pirates.

PETER SHALULILE IS DSTV PREMIERSHIP’S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

The 2022/23 Footballer of the Season, Teboho Mokoena, sits at position three on the list behind two of his teammates.

Mothobi Mokoena, who left his boyhood club SuperSport United in January last year, is now 26 years old and his valuation has increased from R33 million to R42 million.

This is 55 appearances [in all competitions] and four goals later since joining the Brazilians.

The Bethlehem-born star had a stellar season for Sundowns, picking the country’s biggest football accolade.

Nonetheless, two of his teammates are still ahead of him. Chilean star Marcelo Allende is second at R44.4 million, while Peter Shalulile is the most valuable player on the domestic scene.

The 29-year-old Namibia international is valued at R53 million from R46 million. He has scored 104 career goals in club colours.

Thapelo Morena, another Downs star, is fourth at R33.8 million. Kaizer Chiefs have only one player in the top 10, Keagan Dolly, who is valued at R29.6 million. Aubrey Modiba comes in at sixth, with a valuation of R27.5 million. Modiba is a left-back for Bafana Bafana.

Bafana and Sundowns number-one goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is the only goalkeeper on the list.

MONNAPULE SALENG’S VALUE INCREASED STEEPLY

Williams kept a record 18 clean sheets this season and saw his value increase by R4.2 million. The 31-year-old shot-stopper is now valued at R27.5 million, like Modiba.

Monnapule Saleng, crowned Players’ Player of the Season, has had a memorable season. His value has also increased very steeply.

Now, the market values Orlando Pirates winger Saleng at R25.3 million, which is an increase from R9.5 million. In addition, Sundowns’ attacking midfielder Neo Maema matches the same valuation as Saleng.

At number 10 is ball-playing defender Nkosinathi Sibisi who had an impressive maiden season with the Buccaneers.

Sibisi helped Bucs to a second-place finish and the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup triumphs. The former Golden Arrows captain is valued at R25.3 million, like Maema and Saleng.
