Morena Ramoreboli clinches the Botswana Premier League title

South African coach Morena Ramoreboli flew the nation’s flag high after winning the Botswana Premier League with Jwaneng Galaxy FC.

Days before, Pitso Mosimane and his South African technical team woke up the “sleeping giant” winning the Saudi First Division League with Al Ahli Saudi.

Galaxy were declared champions with one match left before the curtain falls on the season.

They defeated 13th placed Holy Ghost 2-0 on Wednesday 31 May at Galaxy Stadium.

Other title contenders Gaborone United missed out by five points following their narrow 1-0 win against ninth placed BDF XI at Botswana National Stadium.

JWANENG GALAXY CLINICAL IN FRONT OF GOAL

The hosts were on an attacking mode from the get go. They opened the scoring as early as two minutes into the match. Wendell Rudath fired a rocket beating the opposition goalkeeper.

Just after the half hour mark, Jwaneng got control of the match. Thabang Sesinyi doubled the lead in the 34th minute.

The scoreline remained unchanged for the remainder of the half. Therefore, Ramoreboli’s troops went on the break leading 2-0.

In the second half, the visitors came back better side, fighting pound-for-pound with Galaxy.

Both teams were however unable to find the back of the net. The match ended 2-0 in favour of the hosts.

JWANENG GALAXY INCREDIBLE RUN LEAGUE RUN

Ramoreboli’s side have been on fire the entire season displaying consistent performances. The last time they had won the league title was back in 2019/20 season.

They have accumulated 69 points in 29 matches. The mining side has registered 21 victories, six stalemates and two defeats.

They are second highest scoring team in the league with 64 goals, one behind Opara United.

To add, they are also second team with less goals conceded with 21, four above Gaborone United.
