Young Bafana to challenge SAFA ruling ahead of playoffs

Western Cape ABC Motsepe League outfit Young Bafana are not backing down as the club is set to seek legal advice over the SAFA arbitration outcome of a case involving rivals Zizwe United.

This comes after SAFA arbitration has ruled in favour of Zizwe United, who had filed a complaint alleging that Young Bafana used a player from another team in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League playoffs four weeks ago.

The matter was heard at the SAFA House on Wednesday, 31 May 2023, with Dr Given Ramatsekisa presiding over the matter after the case escalated to the Association’s national offices. This was in line with Article 81.4 of the SAFA Disciplinary Code.

Therefore, the outcome was made on Thursday, 01 June 2023. And the arbitrator ruled in favour of Zizwe, meaning that Zizwe will now represent Western Cape at the ABC Motsepe National Playoffs.

As a result, Zizwe will now replace Young Bafana, who were the provincial winners.

Young Bafana had secured the National Playoffs spot after their 1-0 win over Zizwe in the second leg.

So, the match ended with a 1-1 scoreline on aggregate. Just like Zizwe, who won the first leg with the same scoreline, which led to the penalty shootouts. Young Bafana were lucky enough to walk away victorious on penalties.

YOUNG BAFANA NOT BACKING DOWN

“We are aware of the SAFA arbitration case document. And the media reports that are making rounds,” said Young Bafana management in a statement.

“We are in utter disbelief and will not allow injustice to prevail.

“As a club, we do not accept the ruling and will do everything in our power to stop it.”
