AmaZulu make decision on Ayanda Dlamini
AmaZulu FC have made a decision on their interim head coach Ayanda Dlamini following the end of the 2022/23 season.
‘Cobra’, as he’s widely known was trusted with a caretaker coach seat after Romain Folz was redeployed to the Technical Advisor.
Dlamini was successful in keeping the side away from the DStv Premiership drop zone, however, he couldn’t finish within top eight.
The 38-year-old mentor was in charge of Usuthu in the last six games of the league. Of those, he picked up only one win, drew two and lost three.
One of the most noteworthy performances was when they held Mamelodi Sundowns to a 2-2 draw, coming back from 2-0 down.
AmaZulu ended the season in the 12th position on the log standings with 33 points in the bag after 30 games of the campaign.
AYANDA DLAMINI LEARNS HIS FATE AT AMAZULU FC
FARPost has learnt that Dlamini has been told that he won’t continue as the head coach of the club.
The club is currently in the process of hunting for a new coach as the pre-season is drawing near.
They would like to have a new coach appointed by then. He would then have all the the time to assemble the team ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, it is still not clear whether Dlamini will continue to serve as an assistant coach like he did under Folz.
Before his promotion, he was serving in the club’s development structures.
IT WAS THE THIRD TIME THAT DLAMINI LED USUTHU AS A CARETAKER COACH
This was not the first time that Dlamini led Usuthu on an interim basis as he did the same following the exit of Cavin Johnson in 2019 and Jozef Vukusic in 2020.
He guided the club to the then-Absa Premiership safety. Thereafter, he earned a three-year contract as a head coach of the club.
However, after a few months, he elected to step down as the results were not forthcoming.
