Ex-Chiefs, Pirates coach linked with Zimbabwean giants

A former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach is being linked with Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants, Dynamos.

The Harare giants, Dynamos, gave current head coach Herbert Maruwa a two-match ultimatum following a series of below par results.

Dynamos last won a league title in 2014 then under the tutelage of Callisto Pasuwa. Since Pasuwa’s era, they have changed coach after coach in search of the right candidate but to no avail.

The current coach has presided over 11 games where the team picked 15 points, with three wins, six draws and two defeats.

They are seventh on the log standings, heading into their next assigment against ZPC Kariba.

Although the league is still in its infancy, the Dynamos leadership is considering to hire a new coach.

The former Chippa United coach was previously been linked with the Warriors, Zimbabwe’s national team.

However it has emerged that the former DStv Premiership coach could end up at one of Zimbabwe’s most successful teams.

Impeccable sources in the Dynamos set-up told FARPost that Papic is the only foreign coach that is in line for the job.

Another former DStv Premiership coach Sunday Chidzambwa has also been mentioned for the gig.

It remains to be seen how it will pan out for the Serbian coach, in the event that Dynamos decides to hire a new coach.

Papic has been a nomadic coach on the continent having also coached in Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.

In South Africa he coached the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. He also coached Maritzburg United, Black Leopards and Polokwane City.

The 62-year-old former DStv Premiership coach last coached Black Leopards in 2021 before they were relegated.

Locally he failed to win major titles despite spending significant time at the financial-stable Soweto giants.
