Marumo Gallants star opens up on Yanga interest

Marumo Gallants defender Mpho Mvelase has opened up on the possibility of playing in Tanzania as giants Young Africans have shown interest.

Mvelase had an outstanding season with Gallants both domestically and in the CAF inter-club competition.

But his side was relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship on the last day of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership. The former Orlando Pirates defender has been linked with several teams, with Yanga being one of them.

MPHO MVELASE ON YOUNG AFRICANS INTEREST

Speaking to FARPost, Mvelase confirmed that there has been an interest but nothing on the table. Mvelase still has a one-year option on his deal with Gallants.

“Yes, there was contact [from Yanga] but because they are playing in the final [CAF Confederation Cup], there has not been much contact.

“But I guess it’s something that could happen after the final. Definitely [it would be a nice experience] because I am a player and going to Tanzania would help me not to be comfortable in my own country.”

Yanga were reportedly also interested in signing Mvela’s teammate Ranga Chivaviro. But Chivaviro is reportedly keen on a move to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

Mvelase has also reflected on the season he has just had after being sidelined for 10 months with an injury.

“I am grateful because I was out for a long time. Coming back stronger and performing the way I performed really humbled me.

“The injury actually pushed me to play the way I did and I was honestly satisfied.”

STARS TO LEAVE MARUMO GALLANTS

Marumo are set to part ways with some of their key players following their relegation. Katlego Otladisa, Washington Arubi, Ranga Chivaviro, and Lebogang Mabotla are just some of the players set to leave.
