Drama continues as Motsepe National Playoffs looms large

With the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs set to begin on Tuesday, 6 June 2023, the Gauteng High Court has set aside the arbitration ruling in favour of Young Bafana.

This comes after Young Bafana appealed the arbitration ruled in favour of Zizwe United on 31 May 2023. The matter was heard at the SAFA House.

Following the SAFA arbitration ruling four days ago, Young Bafana made it clear that they will not be backing down as the club is set to seek legal advice over the arbitration outcome of a case involving rivals Zizwe United.

The South African football governing body’s arbitration had ruled in favour of Zizwe, who had filed a complaint alleging that Young Bafana used a player from another team in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League playoffs five weeks ago.

Zizwe were supposed to represent the Western Cape at the ABC Motsepe National Playoffs.

ZIZWE UNITED SET TO APPEAL THE GAUTENG HIGH COURT RULING

However, Young Bafana escalated the matter to the Gauteng High Court stating that they wouldn’t allow injustice to prevail because they do not accept the ruling and will do everything in our power to stop it.

After today’s ruling, Young Bafana will now replace Zizwe, and represent the Western Cape at the playoffs.

At first, Young Bafana had secured the National Playoffs spot after their 1-0 win over Zizwe in the second leg.

So, the match ended with a 1-1 scoreline on aggregate. Just like Zizwe, who won the first leg with the same scoreline, which led to the penalty shootouts. Young Bafana were lucky enough to walk away victorious on penalties.

As things stand, Zizwe are set to appeal the matter as they feel they were hard done.

Furthermore, this publication will keep you updated as the matter unfold.
